About Dr. Patt

Patt Hollinger Pickett, Ph.D. grew up in the City of Saint Louis, Missouri, the second child of seven children born to her parents.  Growing up with 5 sisters and a brother is where she believes she learned her first lessons in social and  emotional intelligence.

Dr. Patt recieved her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a Master’s of Education in Counseling from the University of Missouri-Saint Louis. As a married mother of three young children, she earned her doctorate in Education focused on marriage and family studies at Saint Louis University. Patt and her husband, Darrel Hollinger, MEd, MBA have a total of five adult children and five grandchildren.

She began her professional career (and served for 13 years) as a probation and parole officer, initially for the State of Missouri and later for the federal government. As a U.S. Probation Officer, she filed a sex discrimination complaint against her employer, the United States District Court.  After a seven year court battle, ending before the U.S. Court of Appeals (and with Patt representing herself), the final judgment was in her favor. This experience was another huge personal lesson in emotional management—leading to what she feels was a boost in her EQ.

After leaving government service, Dr. Patt established a private mental health business focusing on prevention, intervention, education, and enrichment services for her therapy and coaching clients. She is a state Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, a Licensed Professional Counselor,  and is a Certified Missouri Teacher. In addition, she is a Certified Professional Coach and has certification as a Social and Emotional Intelligence Coach. She is a member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, the Missouri Writer’s Guild, and the St, Louis Writer’s Guild.

For over 25 years she has teamed up with her clients to help them enrich their communication skills and to understand, manage, and master their emotions to produce overall improvement in life satisfaction and performance. Theses skills are referred to in the business world as social and emotional intelligence.

Dr. Patt is the author of the multi-award-winning book, The Marriage Whisperer: Tips to Improve Your Relationship Overnight, published by MSI Press, a traditional press in California in 2013.  Her book contains dozens of emotional intelligence relationship tips.

As a writer, Dr. Patt has many other accomplishments including stories published in two 2012 editions of Chicken Soup for the Soul.
